Nacreous clouds are very high, 9-16 miles (15 – 25 km) in the stratosphere.   They catch sunlight long before ground level sunrise and after sunset to glow eerily with unbelievably bright electric colours.   They twist, stretch and curl majestically as lower dark tropospheric clouds hurry beneath.

these beauties were glowing over the flatirons on a drive home from work. there’ve actually been several days of these lately. it’s the season for atmospheric optics…

Our plans right now are small. We’re currently designing a cob home to be built in my back yard this summer. We’ll see where we go from there, but the grand vision is that we’ll keep the momentum up, building more homes after that for various people who become part of the collective. Who knows…maybe one day we’ll just up and rip my roof off and replace it with a living one. Wouldn’t that be rad?

#1: art

i’ve been telling people (chances are, if you’re interested in this blog you’re a close friend/family and i’ve told you) that my house has become my art lately. problem solving, project-making, etc…

well, turns out that’s not enough. i spent the christmas/new years holiday devoting several hours a day to drawing and i’ve come away with a new opinion. practical art is wonderful. making a home is unendingly satisfying. but, drawing….drawing is therapy. it’s like remembering i speak another language. it forces research and thought that’s far less concrete. it’s playful and empowering simultaneously.

so, this year i’m going to make art – the kind that hangs on walls or sits on pedistals or gets published in books. and i might even show my work…which I haven’t done in over 5 years. hold me to it, will ya?
