pauper to prince (a few days in madrid)

i spent the last couple days in madrid with my friend brian from high school. he was there for work and they put him and his boss up at this incredible 5-star hotel in the middle of madrid. i was lucky enough to get to crash there for a few days. and by “crash” i mean sink into an environment more plush than i can remember having experienced in my life. the “pillow menu” says it all for me.

brian and his boss, bill, had to work during the day, so i spent them wandering the streets of madrid and then we´d meet and go out for a couple rounds of tapas before retiring for the evening.

as far as madrid is concerned…well…it´s a big city. i´m not sure what more to say. i saw the first starbucks i´ve seen in spain….and then the next…and the next…and the next…on every street corner right next to the mcdonalds and the burger king.

however, the sidetrack itself was well worth the train ticket and and the time out. i had such a great time with brian and bill. it was perfect timing to catch up with a good friend. i think i needed that dose of “home” right about now.
