i’m sipping my espresso in the early morning surrounded first by the walls of the coffee shop and the people within, but second by the bold and splendid rocky mountains. i wonder at them all day, but especially in the mornings when i make my 6am walk to the coffee shop for a couple hours solo before a day on the slopes with the six wonderful people i came here with.

there is a little girl walking the pastry case repeating quite passionately, “yum yum…! yum yum…!” she moves on to the espresso makers on display and “yum yum” turns to “all these! all these, mommy!”

and the thought occurs to me:  it takes mountains to impress me. some pretty sugar and shiny machines and this toddler wants to announce them to the world.

“I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”
