lately (as in the last couple years) i’ve taken to adding my own suffixes to -venture.  i have many dinnerventures, hoolaventure, slackventures, beachventures, and radventures (wait…no…there’s only ever been one radventure) in my recent past.  anything can turn into an adventure if you remind yourself that’s what it truly is.  and when you remind yourself of such things they’re more likely to become the truth.

ad- a prefix occurring in loanwords from Latin, where it meant “toward”

ven⋅ture [ven-cher]  –noun 1. an undertaking involving uncertainty as to the outcome, esp. a risky or dangerous one: a mountain-climbing venture.

i like that. ad-venture. towards the unknown/risky/dangerous/uncertain rather than away from it.  i wonder if it’s coincidence that i live so close to ventura blvd (aka female “-a” venture).  i’m claiming it as a pattern.

tis’ true. Sometimes when I have something difficult, long, unpleasant to do I try and make it into an adventure. That way it seems a lot more exciting.

It’s true there’s only been one radventure, and it still remains one of my favorite and most memorable days I spent at the woods. It brightened my evening just thinking about it.
