pay it forward

last night at work a man bought himself a gelato and then discreetly paid for the orders of the couple behind him as well.  he wasn’t overly friendly…in fact one might even describe him as “gruff”:  about 6’5″ and very hard of hearing – yet he was the slightest bit bashful and unable to look us in the eyes.  i don’t think he smiled once whist in the caffé.  there’s clearly a distinct difference between being “friendly” and knowing how to love.

it was so much fun to tell them when they came to the register, “you’re taken care of.”
