fire season

it’s hard for me to understand how normal this is for everyone else.  i guess the newbies obsessing over it is about as normal as the fire season itself.  obviously the air quality has been horrid lately – people come on the radio every few minutes to warn us to stay inside in air conditioning as much as humanly possible.  the mornings are eerie peach as the sun glows through red clouds.  the evenings make for beautiful sunsets and blood-red moons. the whole county smells like smoke and sometimes even rains ash.   who needs sci-fi?   real fantasy happens in real life.

the two fires that are creating this plume of smoke have thus far consumed over 37,000 acres (a lot of which is national forest). as of now, the larger fire (the one that’s eaten up 32,000 of those acres) is only 5% contained.  mind-boggling.  sounds like those numbers are going to keep going up.
