yesterday i was working my last shift at my lovely job at gelato bar.  monday i begin at a small preschool/kindergarten and i couldn’t be more excited for the switch.  but it was a special night for more than one reason.  yesterday evening we heard a massive, BAM!, and the cafe shook for a split second as if an explosion had gone off down the block.  fortunately gary was there – our local sci-fi geek – to calm the folks who came running through the door to ask what had happened.

(sidenote: i love that when something big happens, the first thing everyone does is book it the nearest human being)

it was discovery.  the shuttle screamed through the sky above us en route to edwards air force base for a late evening landing.  the mini-earthquake was mine and most of the onlookers’ first experience with a sonic boom.  gary and i spent the rest of the evening talking about the infinity of space and the limited capacity we have to explore it.  [of course, until advanced propulsion technology is developed or wormholes are studied to their fullest capabilities]
