oh the city

from the age of 6 to 8 or so my mother’s boyfriend lived in los angeles.  venice to be exact.

once we went out to visit and he scheduled each of us for artistic endeavors that fit our then-personalities: caylin (4) had a photo shoot, chelsi (7) had a painting session with an artist friend of his, and i (6) had a songwriting session with him.

i wish i had a recording of me singing it, but i still remember the lyrics of my first song:

oh the city, oh the city
is bustling all the time

there are blue flags and orange flags and red flags
in the city

oh the city, oh the city
is bustling all the time

when people go out of their houses in the city
it’s so loud to their ears that they just go back inside

[must i spell out the irony?  how am i just now thinking about this?]

Funny thing is that I often think of that song when I hear the word “city” and that is fairly frequent………I can sorta remember the tune too…..Great memory….Love you Calais….DAD
